Electrical building Supplies Wholesalers

We've enlisted an electrician to wire up power from our newly installed pea transformer and meter box to our 5bungalow boutique resort.

He has provided a list of different sizes of cable, wire, circuit boxes etc.

He mentioned the cheapest place to buy these items is Ratchaburi because most of this stuff is manufactured there.

Anyone know the company names in that area? Or any closer to sam Roi yot, pran buri or hua hin?

im not after light fittings or electrical goods, just general electrical building supplies.

We need as much as 200m of some cabling running underground.

Not looking for global or thawatsido etc.

We heading there here in the morning so any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance

For underground cabling you'll need NYY cable (copper, as aluminium is not allowed underground due to PEA rules) and I've never seen NYY cable available in Watsadu et al so you'll be hunting down an independent local supplier. The best advice on this will probably come from your local PEA office, not Somchai the village spark. If your electrician tells you THW cable is fine underground, my advice is to find another electrician. It's going to cost you money, so do it right. Multicore NYY is available for three phase supply but my calculations tell me it's nearly always more cost effective to run four single core cables in the case of NYY. There are lots of brands available but I personally won't touch anything unless it's from the Bangkok Cable Company. They're the only supplier I've found whose cables consistently meet or exceed the stated conductor size. If you strip the plastic off the conductor of, say, a 2.5 mm cable from BKK Cable and some cheap ass brand, roll them between two fingers, you can FEEL one conductor is smaller than the other, no need for a micrometer!

Ok cool. Thanks for the advice. I'll have to look into this information now as we've already taken the trip to Baan Pong. We literally filled up the tray of ute with a variety of heavy duty cables and lighter. A massive control box for the resort, priced around 35k bht!!

Earth rods etc etc.

The shop we found is accross the road from the hospital and seems to be the choice for the tradies, as whilst we were there filling our order, at least another half dozen utes stopped by to collect orders.

All up we spent close to120k bht, which doesn't include the underground condue/pipe for cables to run thru.

So far, connecting power to our property has been the most expensive, time consuming and stressful part of the building process. Welcome to Thailand hey!

couple pics to keep it interesting for those who can't read ??

Nice view.

That's a beast of a dizzy board, one assumes that, in typical Thai style, it will be installed in the bathroom shown :whistling:

Glad you've got a source, do keep us updated on (lack of) progress
