Car transport on boats across the Gulf set to become a reality

SATTAHIP: -- The new ferry terminal to be built at Juk Samet port in Sattahip will be able to handle boats that can transport cars across the Gulf of Thailand.

 

Details have emerged from Tnews that said that docking bays at the ferry terminal will be able to handle boats 80 meters in length and 15 meters wide.

 

The idea is that cars and other vehicles transporting goods can be carried on routes out of the port that could be ready for service by 2020.

 

The routes planned are as follows:

 

1 Juk Samet to Bang Bao, Koh Chang

2 Juk samet to Khao Takiap, Hua Hin.

3 Juk Samet to Pranburi, Prajuab Khiri Khan.

 

Yesterday was the auspicious laying of the first stone attended by navy bigwigs including the chief of the navy Na Areenit.

 

He spoke of the government's plan to develop the EEC or Eastern Economic Corridor of which the ferry terminal is part. The ferry will boost trade and tourism in the upper gulf area, he said, and is part of plans for 2016 to 2020.

 

The terminal itself will be 6,000 square meters on a site totaling 20,000 square meters.

 

It includes shops, a food court, boarding and waiting areas and accommodation. There will be two bridges leading to four large docking bays for the ships.

 

Foot passenger services from Pattaya across the gulf have already begun and the route to Koh Chang is expected to start later this year, reported Tnews.

i live within walking distance of the new ferry in Khao Takiap, Hua Hin.

 

the terminal was built at what was a quaint old Thai fishing village.

 

the roads leading to the new ferry terminal are so narrow, not just at the terminal, but all the way up to Hua Hin, they would never be able to handle the traffic.

 

and the owners of the multi million baht condos that line the street around the new terminal are not going to be happy with the increased traffic in the once quite area.

It sounds interesting, even exciting.  Are people going to use it ?

Are people going to use it?  Of course many people would use it, if its fares are reasonable and facilities give travellers the comfort they need!

Or ships?

Ships can carry boats, but boats can't carry ships.

I presume ships will be used as ferries.

the ferry service to Koh Chang was suppose to start this September....as earlier reports stated......there were tests being carried out this month....one being testing the depth of  water to acomodate ferries at Sattahip.....so have ALL tests now been carried out?? Or was September the lucky month to be pulled out of the bag???

doubt it.....will be cheaper to drive to Hua Hin and Koh Chang    pie in the sky ideas !!
