I don't get it, can anybody explain me how it works?

 

Many times i see the wind directions on windytv going the opposite way of the moving clouds at TMD weather radar.

 

How is that possible?

 

Hint: if you check the TMD website make sure you also check the time of the images because many times it uses very old images.

Many times the radar is not being reported and the last available scan is what is being shown on TMD - so yes you do need to check time/date and remember for anything but Bangkok they do not use local time so you need to add 7 hours.  The Bangkok scans should update every 5 minutes (but display about 10 min late most of the time).  For some others it may only be one scan an hour being reported.

 

Much better than nothing; but could be a lot better.

Winds can blow different directions at different altitudes.

In the lower right-hand corner of the Windyty map there is an altitude slider you can adjust to view the wind directions at different altitudes.
