A Polish national man was arrested on suspicion of being the robber who blew up a Bangkok Bank ATM and stole about Bt300,000 cash in the early morning of September 13, a police source said on Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police Area 4 investigators and Prawet police apprehended the unnamed 38-year-old suspect at an apartment on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 50 after an investigation relying on CCTV footage led to him.

The suspect, whom police suspect of having committed a similar theft in another country, had not provided any useful information in the case, the source said.

The man left Thailand for Cambodia on September 15 and returned to Bangkok just days before he was arrested.

Police were gathering evidence to apply for an arrest warrant as of press time. They also seized a motorcycle that they suspected was used in the crime and forensic officers were collecting fingerprints and DNA samples, the source said.

National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda will make a statement about the case at a press conference on Wednesday.

This is minor in comparison with a recent spate of ATM thefts in the UK by just one gang.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-39631119

A seven-man gang that blew up cash machines across the UK, including four in Scotland, stealing hundreds of thousands of pounds, have been handed jail sentences ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment.

During their year-long crime spree 13 banks and shops were targeted, with some ATMs blown up using "powerful explosives" and others being dragged away by stolen cars and attacked with high-powered tools to access the cash.

I thought these ATM machines were fitted with dye packs.

Might be better if they were fitted with die packs. It would put a stop to each particular thieves' crime spree.

You haven't followed how many blow up ATM thefts have taken place in the west.

Berlin in my case is where I remember a dozen or more such acts.

Preferably at metro rail or subway stations.

Could it be that it was "foreign gangs" :whistling:

Just did a simple search: at least six ATM blow-ups in Germany this month.

(that made it to the news)

20 such blow-ups by just one gang (boss arrested) in 2016/2017.

PM know it was the polish guy all the time, but he couldn´t tell somebody at the moment. He was to reveal it, but the RTP beat him to it.

Long live Polish suspects!

Yes, long live polish suspects, they will always get clean away...

I wonder if he was wanted by InterPOLE?

This will continue if they keep swallowing cards

this white dude is giving all foreigners a bad name. Lock him up and throw the key ?.

I'm always amazed how they fill the atm's in thailand. No security or anything, just a person filling up the machine. No guns to be seen.

they do carry guns.... look.... you will see that their shirts/uniform jackets are not tucked in. Only a blind man would'nt see the bulge of the gun on the hip.

the boys in brown shouldbe looking into where he got the explosives!

I thought I read that a gas canister of a nearby sidewalk foodshop (Thai for restaurant) was used to fill the safe compartment with gas. Just a spark will do the rest.

almost looks too easy,  10 years inside, perhaps not 555

He was probably forced to pay 220 THB withdrawal fee

I understand him

Damn Thai police is good if the suspect is guilty.
