webfact Posted September 27, 2017 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Allegations fly as "stolen lottery ticket" story takes new twists Picture: Thai Rath The drama surrounding the story of the man who reported that his winning tickets worth 12 million baht in the national lottery had been stolen just got more interesting. What at first looked like a simple matter of a man not cashing his 12 million baht winnings immediately and having his two winning tickets stolen from under his nose now looks anything but straightforward. Earlier Phansak Seuakhumsaeng of Nang Rong district in Buriram had reported winning the lottery to police, as is the custom for big wins in Thailand. But within a couple of days he had lost his tickets. So he went back to the cops to report the loss. In the meantime another person or persons cashed them and claimed the 12 million from the lottery office, it is believed. Though not revealed in the original story on Thaivisa, Phansak claimed that the person who stole them was the son of Jamlong Paochumsaeng, 38, whose family members are frequent visitors to his house. Jamlong said that this is rubbish and the accusation has caused considerable trouble to his family, their reputation and caused a loss of face. He said his son, aged just 14, stayed with Phansak Monday to Friday of the week the tickets went missing then went to Chonburi at the weekend. When contacted on the Line app and accused of theft he was completely confused because he said he had done nothing wrong. Jamlong claimed that the man who cashed the tickets is a person from Roi-Et. Meanwhile that man, Withaya Thanasapsin, told reporters following the case that he would go to Nang Rong police today, Thursday. He would not say if he had cashed the tickets or had the money but just said that he had news in the matter. Police in the area are still trying to get to the bottom of the case amid accusations that Phansak may have not been the owner of the tickets in the first place and may have even colluded with the lottery vendor in claiming that he was. The original investigating officers have been replaced with a new head. Phaisan Suwantha has been handed the responsibility. It was confirmed yesterday that the lottery vendor called Suwat who was so sure earlier that he had sold the tickets to complainant Phansak has now changed his story. This prompted Phansak's father Weera and aunt Bang-orn to say: "Now we're confused". But they still expressed confidence that the new police team investigating would get to the bottom of the drama that is gripping the nation. Vendor Suwat refused to let the media take his picture yesterday saying it could affect the case. Then came a further tidbit - the person who cashed the tickets and got the money is believed to be the wife of a rich man who owns a gas station in Roi-Et. She has already been issued with two summonses. If she fails to respond to the third an arrest warrant will be issued for her, said investigator Phaisan. The woman - not named in the Sanook article - said she was not yet ready to give evidence. Phaisan said he had interviewed ten witnesses and there is a mountain of evidence in the case that he hopes to have resolved within the next week. Phansak's winning tickets were for the national lottery drawn on August 16th. After reporting his win to police he realized that his tickets had been taken from his house. I kinda must have, somehow, lost the tickets, sorry..." Back during the war on drugs a couple who had won the lottery kept quiet about it.
