Marut Arthakaivalvatee, one of Thailand’s leading advertising executives, has been appointed new chairman of the board of directors of the Nation Multimedia Group  (NMG) in a move that will help reinforce the group’s leadership in the media business and further drive its expansion into online business and revenue diversification.

Marut, who is currently vice chairman of VGI Global Media, a major out-of-home media and digital service business company, is one of the five new directors appointed to the NMG board. Thepchai Yong has been appointed vice chairman and will keep his posts as chief executive officer of NMG and Group editor in chief.

“The changes reflect confidence that investors have in the future of NMG and will inject new vitality into the media group amid new challenges in the current media landscape. At the same time it also ensures the continuity of the editorial independence of the media group,” said a company statement.

Suthichai Yoon, a key founder of NMG, will also continue to serve as an adviser to the management of the media group and anchor his “Timeline Suthichai” current affairs programme on Nation TV.

Expressing his strong confidence in NMG, new board chairman Marut said he hoped to use his advertising and management experience “to help move NMG forward”.

Marut was chief executive officer of VGI until 2016 and credited with being behind its impressive growth.  VGI’s major shareholder is Bangkok Mass Transit System Plc, operator of Bangkok’s skytrain system.

NMG, one of Thailand’s largest media companies, currently operates two TV stations, Nation TV and NOW26, and three daily newspapers, including The Nation, as well as a wide range of online platforms.

“With the new board of directors, we are confident that NMG will continue to keep its preeminent place in the media business with more vigour and agility,” said Thepchai.
