Thai chef hadn’t seen his family for 15 years, now his new employer closes restaurant annually for him to go home

A Thai-fusion restaurant in Bakersfield, California put up a sign explaining why they’ve closed for two weeks, and the heartwarming reason is breaking the internet — and making everyone want to eat there.

A Reddit user snapped and posted a picture of the sign at Chef’s Choice Noodle Bar, which went viral and has received more than 2,000 comments. Some local users said that they now want to eat at the restaurant more often.

The sign reads: “Our head chef is from Thailand, and every year, we send him back to visit his family. Prior to coming to work at Chef’s Choice Noodle Bar, he had not seen his family for 15 years, but when he joined the Noodle Bar family, we wanted him to have the opportunity to see his family on a more regular basis. So we close the restaurant for two weeks every fall, in order for him to visit his family and recharge himself.”

If true, a really nice story.

cheap marketing ploy

Sounds like somebody needs to train their Sous Chef(s) some more...?

Nice touch. Stand to lose $50,000 but the extra publicity and future custom should make up for that.

"American restaurant closes for 2 weeks and all the staff get a holiday" :saai: Stop the presses. I guess you missed the part where they said "every year"...this isn't new "news":coffee1:

In my home town a know quite a few restaurants that close for 2 weeks every year to allow their chef to go home..................and he lives only just around the corner.

What is he going to find after being away for 15 years?

nothing negative about the truth. so they let the chef take the holiday he's entitled to once a year. why advertise it unless for cheap marketing. most companies give their staff holidays, and what? no ones grumpy haha. just because people can can see through the bullshit doesn't make them grumpy

Agreed its really a pity, a feel good story and then jumped on by a bunch of angry want to be expat experts. Laughable indeed.

I thought this was "Thailand News", not the "Daíly Fluffy Unicorn Bedtime Story". News these days are to be automatically distrusted. False until proven true.

I think you missed the point a bit, most if not all comments on here are aimed at the few, you know the yellow ones as the majority of locals suffer from those child like mistakes that those at the top make day after day and try to cover up with BullS>>> while robbing the nice people. in a country built and run for the few while the nicer people (majority) suffer living on 300b a day when a cup of coffee cost nearly that in BK
