Retirement Path ?

Featured Replies

Hi,I am a 58 yr old Aussie wanting to Retire in Thailand shortly.I will receive a payout from my employer in late november 17.I have a flight booked for 7 Dec returning early March if required. Now,can I travel there on a 2 month TV,extend for 30 days,to cover for banked 800k tbt, then change my visa to an OA visa, during the last 30 days,Then apply for the Year Ext based on Retirement , in Thailand,or will I have to do it here B4 I travel ?PS looking forward to hearing any advise but feel Ubonjoe is the Man lol...Thanks in advance.

Based upon your plan the O-A is not an option(A Non-Imm O-A is only available from a Thai Embassy or Consulate).  You will have to pursue a Non-Imm O while you are in Thailand.

You can only apply for a the OA visa at the embassy in Canberra or the consulate in Sydney. To apply for it your money can be in a bank in Australia. Enter Australia for your country on this page and then click retirement visa on this page for more info and requirements. http://canberra.thaiembassy.org/Home/visa

If not you can travel to Thailand with a tourist, visa transfer the 800k to a Thai bank account in your name only. Then you could apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry at immigration up to the last 15 days of the 60 day entry from the tourist visa.

Then when the 800k baht has been in the bank for 60 days you could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement.

No need to return to Australia unless you want to.

If you do want to travel you will need a re-entry permit to keep your extension valid.

They would have you do the 30 day extension of your 60 day entry before you applied for the the visa. So not a problem with only 13 days remaining.

General requirements are here: https://www.immigration.go.th/content/service_80

You can extend that 60 day tourist visa for another 30 days at any time so that will provide you time to make your application for change.
