Put you windows cd in and use add/remove programs, probably the add/remove windows componants section.

If the Windows was pre-installed and there's no OEM disk, the install files are likely sitting on a hard drive partition.

Thanxs , tried that ..................

any idea where hyperterminal lives ?

I have a genuine copy of XP pro and add / remove components when started from either the CD or control panel yields a pop-up box with Acc's and Utilities , Fax services , Index services etc

I found a Technet article on it;

To install HyperTerminal

1. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

3. Click Accessories and Utilities, then click Details.

4. Click Communications, then click Details.

5. Select the HyperTerminal check box, and then click OK.

Notes

• To perform this procedure, you must be a member of the Administrators group on the local computer, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. If the computer is joined to a domain, members of the Domain Admins group might be able to perform this procedure. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.

• To open the Windows Components Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove programs, and then click Add/Remove Windows Components.
