Confusion Over Gigabyte Graphics Card - 1060 6GB

Recommended Posts

I am a bit confused and am really unsure as to exactly what I ended up with after ordering a Gigabyte 1060 6GB RAM Video Card Online -

My original order was for the Nvidia 1060 GTX, 6GB RAM with the 9GBps option. The card is supposed to have three Windforce Fans and the part number is listed as GV-N1060AORUS-6GD, and the title is listed as - Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 6G 9Gbps .

However, when the card arrived, it carries the same part number GV-N1060AORUS-6GD and has the title - Auros GE-Force GTX 1060 6G, but no reference to 9GBPs!

It actually runs at 8GBPs. and on the box after the part number it is listed as REV 2.0.

The 9GBPs is listed as REV 1.0.

Also, after looking at Gigabytes website, I was unable to find one identical as the model I have received, all the models on the Gigabyte site have two fans, whereas mine has 3 fans.

Any one got any ideas as to what this card actually is?

Thanks.

First hit. "ALL the models." Don't you see 3 fans there? I do. Says 6gbs but if you're getting 8, then that's better & close 'nuff to 9, considering you got a fan you weren't expecting and you got rev. 2, better than rev. 1. If you'd known about rev 2, you'd have ordered it anyway, so the vendor did you a favor (besides, he was out of the old rev 1, heh).

I don't think you have a worry here really. What matters is how it performs and I think that's going to be quite satisfactory and worth what you paid.

Ah, but you are looking on the US Version of the Gigabyte site! The card I was looking at was on the Thai site and availability is a different thing here.

Anyway, that certainly looks like the card I got, however, I am not sure that a Rev 2.0 8GBPs card is any better than a Rev 1.0 9GBPs model.

Cheers for the reply though. (The 9GBps refers to clock speed not memory, there are no 9GB models or 8GB models memory capacity - it is memory clock speed)

If you look at the same picture you sent me, and click the little link in blue to REV 01, you will see the card I am talking about - look on the box in the photo, it says 9GBPs)

Yep. But availability can be same, no fast rule about that. Thai site more likely out of date.

Any difference will be subtle I imagine. You may read discussions about a similar card here:

Well, I spoke to the retailer today and he is as confused as me!

Seems that Gigabyte have just gone and replaced Rev 1 with Rev 2 and given both cards the same part number!

All in all I understand the situation and it is all worked out - the seller is giving me a few bob store credit and it saves me returning a perfectly good card.

You are probably correct too in what you said about the rev 2 being better - I just overclocked it tonight and it runs as sweet as sugar at 9.2 GBPs. without even having to bump voltages.

Fairly typical, part number doesn't change w/ different Revs, and often the only way to find out the Rev # is to read the sticker or stamp on the board. 'Course you never think to do that before installation. Then it turns out that maybe a driver or BIOS update only applies to a certain Rev. OH--different Revs. Now you gotta break open the case and maybe take out the part or the part that's covering up the sticker/stamp to dig out the Rev. Then you forget to write it down for later . . . .
