Retaining fields full, water over-running banks of Yom River

The 240,000-rai (38,400-hectare) water retaining fields of “Bang Rakham Model 60” are now full beyond their combined capacity of 400 million cubic metres, a source reported on Monday.

The retaining fields in Sukhothai’s Kong Krailat district and Phitsanulok’s Phrom Phiram, Muang and Bang Rakam districts have absorbed a deluge from the Yom River from August until now.

 

Water has over-run the banks, flooding some nearby road sections.

 

Water levels in the Yom River, as well as Khlong Mem and Khlong Bang Kaew, continue to rise amid ongoing rainfall in the North that is expected to last until at least mid-week.

 

The Yom-Nan irrigation project director, Chamnan Chuthiang, has warned of floods in Kong Krailat’s Krai Nok, Krai Nai, Kok Raed, Dong Deuy, and Bang Mai Sukkasem sub-districts, Phrom Phiram’s Wang Won, Nong Khaem and Tha Chang sub-districts, and Muang Phitsanulok’s Ban Krang sub-district, as well as Bang Rakham’s Chumsaeng Songkhram, Tha Nang Ngam, and Bang Ra Kham sub-districts.
