Sophon Cable TV in Pattaya were reporting on Monday's flooding at the resort when they came across a traffic cop now receiving much praise online.

Officer Prasert Thianyee - without even a rain coat on - had a whistle in one hand and a PVC pipe in the other.

If not trying to help the inevitable slow traffic flow with his whistle he was using the blue pole to clear the blocked drains and help the water flow away.

Sophon said he didn't care about looking good - he was just there to help in any way he could. He was photographed in Soi Khao Noi.

The story reported that further heavy monsoon rains had left many roads under between 30-50 centimeters of water. They said Sukhumvit and Beach Roads were badly affected once again.

Thai comment online centered around the actions of the cop and concern over where all that litter was coming from.

After bad publicity I have seen over 60 council workers making a one day effort to clean the beach .After or during a storm none to be seen

How does the whistle make the traffic flow faster?  I never understand that.  Sometimes, during rush hour, I see police gesturing at cars to go faster working on the principle that the faster their hand movements; the faster the cars will go.
