MADRID (Reuters) - Spain's government will trigger on Saturday the Article 155 of the constitution, which allows to suspend Catalonia's political autonomy, the Prime Minister's Office said on Thursday.

The special cabinet meeting was called after Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont said the regional parliament could vote on a formal declaration of independence from Spain if the central government failed to agree to talks.

What on earth does Catalonia want?

    They have

    Their own language

    Their own police force

    Their own flag

    Their own parliament

    Their own schools

They are the richest part of Spain but they complain about sharing the wealth with poorer areas!

Where is The Republican egalitarian idealism?

Greedy buggers. They've got it coming!

    Indeed Grousy!

That's what can happen when greedy ambitious self centered politicians hi-jack and hype up "a cause" and get some momentum.

They want a small proportion of the Catalan electorate to dictate to not only the rest of Catalan but also the whole of Spain on how it's going to be. And then claim they are democratic!

what do they want? many people live in Cat. they probably have different wishes re separation

Cat. makes a fair amount of pesetas and collects a substantial amount of pesetas in tax,

this is shipped up the road to Castillan which redistributes collected tax pesetas over the whole peninsula

many in Cat are pissed off that not enough tax money is returned to Cat.

some regions on the peninsula have way better control over collected taxes,

    compared to Cat.

    Navarra zum Beispiel

I see a beefing up/reshaping of the Spanish constitution coming ......

Spain and the EU has shown itself to be the intolerant collective that it is. Despite all the negative comments the UK has received from many quarters...at least they were good enough to give the Scots a real vote and would have honoured it either way. Spain has acted a little bit like the Franco government would have...not good. A chilling expose imo.
