The Pattaya chief of police with Chonburi colleagues announced the arrest of a 41 year old man who was conning Thai women by pretending to be a top US general.

Chief Apichai Krobpetch said that first of all his men and other colleagues arrested Michael Joseph from Mozambique on overstay.

He was found living in a Bang Lamung apartment having overstayed since October 2013.

Then police looked a little deeper into what he had been doing to earn a living in the last four years.

They found that he had been pretending to be General Joseph of the US Marine Corps.

To be precise it was General Joseph Dunford, the 19th chairman of the joint chiefs of staff.

Rich and well connected, or so he said, the African fraudster contacted Thai women looking for true love.

When he had them hooked he would tell them he had sent cash and diamonds but payments of 50,000 baht were needed coming from Thailand to make sure that the items reached their destination.

The cops said there were many Thai women who fell for this ruse, reported Daily News.

Women who believe they are victims of the con man are urged to contact Pattaya police.

Many people believe that P.T. Barnum said "There is a sucker born every minute." He didn't, well that is what Wiki says. But I still think of his name after reading about these online scams.

It is just sad that there are women so unhappy that they would fall for this kind of nonsense. And equally sad that there are people who take advantage of it.

Doesn't say much for humanity, does it?

He could have fooled me... i definitely can see the resemblance and

why anyone can believe he's the real general....

Just put another pin in the fact of an education and information system that sucks. Everybody knows that a person that can send as much as he is tälking about, also can pay the costs, if any.
Just a comment about that he send the money first to her bank account will do it. Sadly people learn nothing here.

Truly????

True love of money.

If he had posted the same photo but claimed that he had lost all his money, not one woman would have continued talking/chatting to him.

Similar to how we can all get fooled by believing a General knows how to run a country

I'm guessing that down at the station he said it was just a misunderstanding and that he was really just a football manager.

Well, at least he will have 1,000 odd Nigerian black men to keep him company for a few years.

it`s not the same as this

Maybe the Nigerian bosses had him turned in. They don't want any Mozambican upstarts competing with "their" business.

Shocking news as they are all known for their sincerity and honesty...

Was it W C Fields who said " Never give a sucker an even break " ?

tooo funny..

Overstaying since 2013???? I worry about my 90 day report:shock1:

However, he managed to four years overstay with his rotten business! At 50 000 Baht per victim, there could be a lot of them.

Now, what about the US general being aware of the story?

Not so unhappy............GREEDY! ......believing they are going to get i phones, diamonds, gold, designer clothes and cash etc all sent through the mail from a guy they have never met that has fallen in love with therm over the internet and all they have to do is send 50,000 baht to a bank account ' for customs clearance ' to receive their bounty.

Not only the ' ladies of the night ' believe these scams, well heeled Bangkok women have fallen for it as well.....If it sounds to good to be true............!!

You assume a great deal by saying they are so unhappy to feel the need to do this.. Whereas it is more likely they have their own agenda for wanting a foreigner or sending large amounts of money to a stranger met online... Let's see.. promises of gold and diamonds ? Duh!

A better future and life? Duh!

Doesn't say much about your opinion of humanity though... Perhaps it is because you think you are better than these suckers?

Would I get Life, if I offered a life with YoYo, with no strings attached?

He sent 26000 baht and was trying to borrow 50000 to send more.
