MoU to be signed between Education Ministry and GSB to help restructure teachers’ debts

 

The Government Savings Bank and the Office of Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Educational Personnel (OTEP) will sign a memorandum of understanding on resolving the debt problem of teachers.

 

Education Minister Thirakiart Charoensethsilp said Friday (Oct 20) that the MoU would supersede an earlier agreement between the GSB and OTEP.

 

Under the old agreement, GSB paid fees for the management of teachers’ debts at a rate of between 0.5-1 percent of the total debts into a special fund for the promotion of security of teachers, said the minister, adding, however that, in real practice, the management fees were used to settle teachers’ debts.
