PTT sees its oil business seriously threatened in next decade by EVs

Featured Replies

This will be interesting.  When they run out of fuel, it's bad enough but sometimes they can get some from the mum and dad stores. Can't see this happening with electric cars.  If they think this is going to happen in the next decade then they are a bigger pack of Pajeros than I took them for. :post-4641-1156694572:   :wai:

The same crap as what you use in a car now if not worse ,Gas & coal, oil ,,,,But people seem to think that Electricity is Clean because it comes out of a Powerpoint in the wall. what is going to happen than that the price off electricity will go up and up.It's already expensive now, just wait a few more years, chaos.

those who say that electric cars are as polluting as conventional cars are missing some important points points.

First they are not, they have the same polluting footprint  as hybrids at this point.

Second, the pollution is more  controllable because it is concentrated at the points of car and battery production,  at the electric generation and   and recycling locations, Further more these facilities are usually removed from population centers.

And Third the population projections from  electricity generation is projected to decrease as we move more and more toward renewables.

EV might not be the best solution but it is certainly far better than internal combustion vehicles

Nobody ever discusses the pollution associated with the implementation of so-called green energy, like batteries and solar cell panels.  "

Not true, if you google " electric car pollution" you will see dozens of articles on the subject.

Here is one: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/electric-cars-are-not-necessarily-clean/

What is said is that electric cars are less  polluting than internal combustion cars.

I didn't think he was talking about the electric car, I thought he was referring to the manufacture of the batteries and solar cells. I might be wrong but that is the way I read it.  They use heaps of base load power for this, not green energy.:wai:

Ah, so the polution from the power stations etc is outside the environment.

That's good.

In 100 years nobody except a few stragely survivors will be on this planet anyway.

Sustainable continuous growth doesn't exist.

Has anybody stopped to think how they are going to produce all this extra electricity?

You are missing the point ,,,electric cars are proven to be more Dirty because of the Dirty electric power they need to run,,The best power fuel there is is a combustion engine run on Hydrogen gas,,, not those run on Hydrogen converted to electricity and run electric motors ,those are a rip off from the car manufactures.

I guess that clarifies that there is much more than 100% out there.

Don't they proofread this things before they publish them?

Dash it! Someone stole the dashes.

They can very cheaply and simply convert their gas stations to drive-thru Amazon Cafes and problem solved! They can keep the coffee in the underground gasoline tanks and heat it up before serving. It would still taste better than FoodLand coffee, I'd bet.

Yes, I certainly agree on the latter. However, that kind of pollution will gradually fall as batteries get smaller through improved technology although that could be a long way off. With the right level of investment batteries could get smaller quickly but at present there isn't the demand so investment is small (in comparison to say memory storage devices and computers).

The former point about massive car parks also have environmental issues as well as new feed and exit roads causing congestion in the countryside.

The failure of electric vehicles is like the failure of socialism - the people simply didn't do it correctly before, so let's try it again. Or maybe not.

I didn't mention the history of anything, just investment and demand so I don't see your point of the pictures If there had been the demand for electric carriages perhaps things would have been different. But it seems that the combustion engine was more convenient in terms of 'recharging' the tank.

And for the forseeable future it will probably stay that way.

I implied that anyway by tlaking about the level of investment.

True about hydrogen cars only producing water but at the moment around 95% of hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels etc.

Some is produced from water using electricity but the cost of production is higher than the value of H2 produced.

Sixty percent they do; the other half they don't.

I know,I had a program going making H2 we were making H2 but the cost was to high and couldn't get a unit to make enough H2 for the car to make it on board, just not enough electricity in the batteries+ big Alternator to make it work.

I know it should be H ( not H2 )

???  just a way of saying you strip the O and get 2 H's

H2, the chemical formula for hydrogen gas.
