2 Border runs per calendar year period or per country?

As far as I am aware the majority of countries issue a visa that gives a date by which the holder must leave the country, and an entry stamp confirming permission to enter.

That is not my experience. It certainly is not true for the US where an ESTA or visa typically has a validity period measured in years, and the official on entry decides the date you must leave by. My recollection is that Cambodia starts the 30-day stay in the country from when you enter, not the date the visa is issued. What you say is the case I think mostly applies to long stay visas in a limited number of countries, but I could be wrong. I mostly only concern myself with the way immigration rules affect me.

  • Kuala Lumpur absolutely recommended. Cheap, many flights per day.

  • Many people incorrectly call a visa exempt entry a visa. In fact some people call everything stamped in their passport a visa.

That's two (2) runs out and in to Thailand via LAND borders.  The limitation doesn't apply to flying, so you could look for a cheapie roundtrip to Singapore or KL, which'd work fine.   Mac

Fair enough. I was probably wrong to say "majority".
