Catalan parliament declares independence from Spain

BARCELONA (Reuters) - Catalonia's regional parliament declared independence from Spain on Friday in a disputed vote that is now likely to be declared illegal by Spain's constitutional court.

The independence motion was passed in the 135-strong assembly with 70 votes in favour, 10 against and 2 blank ballots, the assembly's speaker said.

Lawmakers from the Socialist Party, the People's Party (PP) and Ciudadanos had left the chamber before the vote in protest.

Very depressing

Risk of bloodshed very real

and for what? Really?

This is not going to end peacefully. If the Spanish police go crazy and shoot a few protesters then Spain as we know it today is finished.

Expect the Basques and the Galicians to begin protesting soon.

And the financial support to make this a reality comes from where?

lol... China, come on down.

Quite the opposite, actually. The Caalans are very pro EU. In that way, similar to the Scots. Dissimilar in that Catalonio is the economic driver of Spain.
