Some meds are over the counter here in Thailand that are prescription in the USA.

I will be flying back to the USA at the end of November and would like to take some testostorone and some metformin back to the USA.

I was just going to take it in its original packaging through hand luggage.

Thoughts?  Experience?

What about sleeping pills. My bud us going there and was asking me if he needs a letter from the doctor or just the pills with the label on the bottle?

Depends on how many... I mean, if less than 100 (probably) I would just get a vitamine pill bottle and either mix the meds in with the vitamins .. or replace the vitamins with the meds.

I know this is not LEGAL ... BUT, customs does not have the time to go through every bottle of "vitamins" to be sure they are in fact vitamins.

I would think a bottle labeled AMBIEN (or whatever the meds are) might be confiscated (controlled substance)

Personally, I would hide them.

I have had 560 pills of NARDIL shipped to Thailand (prescribed by doctor in USA.. 3 months supply) .. and just to avoid the bother (and super lengthy process .. I went through when trying to do it the "right" way... even though NARDIL is not even recognized as a medication in Thailand .. like, it just doesn't exist top them? .. Its been around since the 1940's and Thailand STILL has no idea what it is)

I now have them mailed to me loose in a bag of candy.  Send them through the mail. No problem.

If some snoopy corrupt person in customs wants to eat some of my "candy" ... LOL ... good luck not poisoning him/herself.

Hide the sleeping pills in a different bottle.

They will never check anyway ... I have never seen the USA TSA open handheld luggage to look at a bottle of pills they found on xray.

In practice, as long as not a controlled substance, usually no problem. Injectables might raise more of an issue.

Yes .. I think the injectables might spark some interest on the xray's ...

the ampules only cost 2000thb .. so I think I will just try and carry them through ...

if they want to confiscate them they can ...

I am only going to bring one box (10 ampules) back .. so, it's not like I am reselling them or anything.

I will just tell them they are for Testosterone Replacement Therapy .. and if they want them, they can have them.

I go through customs in Detroit so maybe it won't be that bad.

Thanks for the advice and the link

Extremely bad, dangerously bad, advice.

Attempting to conceal what medication you are bringing in is probably the best way to get into legal trouble -- potentially very bad trouble if it is a controlled substance.  You cross the  ine from simply bringing in a medication to smuggling.

Sleeping pills, if controlled substance like ambien or a benzo,  will not be confiscated provided they are in a prescription bottle with your name and dcoptor's name, or you have other proof of prescription (dpctor's note etc) and the quantity is consistent with personal use.

Customs (which is not the same thing as TSA)  most definitely do examine medications  and, unlike TSa which is concerned with security issues, are on the look-out for illegal drugs.

By the way, phenelzine (which is what Nardil is) IS recognized as a medication in Thailand and approved for use here. There just isn't a registered brand of it. Big difference. It is however technically illegal to import medications by mail.
