Prime Minister Hun Sen has donated an additional $20,000 toward the construction of a stupa for slain political analyst Kem Ley. On Friday, Mr Ley’s mother and brother sent a letter to Mr Hun Sen requesting him to contribute more money to build the stupa, which still needs about $120,000 to complete.

Mr Hun Sen in July contributed about $50,000 toward the construction of the stupa, which will hold the ashes of Mr Ley, who was shot dead in July 2016 inside the Star Mart Caltex station in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey district.

After the request, Mr Hun Sen agreed to contribute a further $20,000, delivering it on Saturday to the Ley family via Lim Chea Vutha, director of the Fresh News website, according to a Fresh News report. Kem Rithysith, Mr Ley’s brother, said that the contribution would allow a further 15 percent of the stupa to be completed, bringing the total to 45 percent.
