New process considered after no one applies to sit on new Election Commission

Meechai Ruchuphan

Due to the total lack of applications for membership on the new Election Commission (EC), the applicant committee could decide to approach specific, qualified people to fill the now-vacant board.

The application period, open on October 19, will be closed on November 10 – yet no one has so far replied.

All the current commissioners are in acting positions since they were removed following the enactment of the EC organic law last month.

The committee seeking EC candidates was set up consisting of representatives from the National Legislative Assembly, courts and independent organisations.

Constitution Drafting Commission chairman Meechai Ruchuphan said that while the committee could seek candidates on their own, there were still days left before the application closing date. “We still have time to wait and see,” the chairman said.

...no need to rush here, I'm sure there's a distant relative that will fit the position perfectly!

They have time enough to find a candidate as it will take decades for the first free and fair election can take place.

I applied but apparently I didn't qualify , something to do with my age I believe.......................................................:cheesy:

There must be real work involved at low pay and no brown envelope incentives.

Why not just stick your daughter on there? You don't seem to have a problem with that kind of thing after all...

So it looks increasing likely that they will have Prayut selecting his mates on the EC as well. Obviously they will all be politically neutral and feel no need to kowtow to those who gave them the high profile and no doubt lucrative opportunities which may arise out of those positions.

next step is forcing them, under penalty, to serve

No one apply or was it? Staging for some cronies to step right up and perform their national duties and sacrifice for the country. Probably some ex-generals or family members.

another delay
