Witness links Army captain to deceased official: source

Police have identified a key witness linking murder suspect Supachai Paso, a former Army captain, to his alleged victim Juthaporn Oun-on, a Si Sa Ket-based local administration organisation official whose body was found early last week, a police source said on Tuesday.

 

The witness introduced the two of them, with the pair reportedly becoming close to the point of Supachai, 30, borrowing money from Juthaporn, 37.

 

Juthaporn reportedly attempted to collect the debt on July 3, the day she disappeared, the source said. 

 

Police also found that Juthaporn’s Facebook account had been activated a few days after her disappearance, with a message telling her family and friends she was fine and wanted to start her life over somewhere else. Supachai allegedly filmed footage linked to that Facebook page, and could be the person who accessed the account via a cell phone, the source said.

 

In the company of Si Sa Ket police on Monday, Supachai heard three new charges including premeditated murder, illegal detention leading to a person’s death, and concealing or destroying a body. He was forwarded to the Kantharalak Provincial Court that evening, by which time it was too late to grant him bail in line with the request of his family and girlfriend. 

 

Supachai, 30, who has been dismissed from the military, had already been charged with illegal detention, stealing Juthaporn’s car, using fake documents and destroying another person’s documents leading to damages. 

 

The three additional charges were filed after the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Bangkok’s Police General Hospital confirmed that a human skull, bones and other items found early last week near the 2305th paramilitary ranger base in Ubon Ratchathani’s Nam Yeun district belonged to Juthaporn.

 

On Tuesday morning, Juthaporn’s relatives filed an objection at court to Supachai’s bail release as they claimed he could tamper with the evidence. 

 

Police spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen earlier on Monday said police would ask the court to deny bail to Supachai because he had been charged with three serious charges that could potentially carry the death sentence.
