There were huge crowds at the home of a self styled "doctor" in Prachinburi at the weekend.

"Dr Saeng" - real name Saengchai Haelerttrakun was handing out the latest batches of capsules for treating cancer.

He is not charging but the health authorities have made him label the "medicine" as a food supplement.

Thousands have descended on the home of "Dr Saeng" over the last nine years.

His herbal remedies have even encouraged criminals to fabricate his products and sell them to the gullible.

On Sunday hundreds of hopefuls came from Chiang Mai to his home in Muang district of Prachinburi - such is the demand that each time he hands out his wares a different area of Thailand is chosen to avoid a mad scramble.

But the health authorities are quick to point out that the capsules should not be considered a cure for cancer.

Testing has shown them not to contain steroids so they are considered OK for distribution.

But the department of public health has said they should be considered as a food supplement designed to improve general health for cancer sufferers.

While the public are advised to continue with more recognized treatment of cancer and its symptoms.

Terrible.

Clearly the good doctot has first claim on the “selling to the gullible” market.

This doctor is giving out a health supplement to cancer sufferers . It may be only a placebo but if it  gives some hope and  the doctor is making and packaging  the contents for free . Why not  give him some credit .What's the downside?

The downside is if it doesn't work and the cancer patients take this instead of chemo or radiation treament and their cancer metastasizes and they die.

Even cannabis oil which has been proven to cure skin cancer and prostate cancer and other types of cancer needs to specifically formulated and used properly. So far there's no one-size-fits-all cancer treatment.

If hes claiming irs effective against all types of cancer, especially if he doesn't have any proof, I think it's irresponsible. Even if it's taken in conjunction with proven cancer treatments, there may be ingredients  in his concoction which could reduce the effectiveness of the other treatments.

Interesting . Do you have a link to an unbiased site that has proof of the success of cannabis oil in the treatment of cancer . I could not find a site that did not have a conflict of interest  .

Hope is a wonderful thing. Hope can help people remain calm, feel less stress and generally feel better about their existence. But what it doesn’t do is cure cancer. Real medicine does this. And that’s where you have to tell people that this medicine won’t cure you. Go and see a real doctor and get the best medical advice and medicine as possible.
