Newborn baby with Bt2,000 cash found abandoned in hospital

By The Nation

A newborn baby boy was found abandoned inside the Takuapa district hospital in Phang Nga with Bt2,000 in cash, hospital officials said.

The baby was found at around 9pm behind the emergency building near an outpatient pharmacy room, Takuapa hospital director Dr Phaisal Worasathit said.

A plastic bag that contained among other things Bt2,000 in cash and a milk bottle were found beside the baby.

The baby is believed to be about three days old.

Phaisal said the baby weighed about 2.6kg when he was found.

Well done to the Mother for having the sense to leave the baby at a hospital, rather than in a rubbish dump .

I hope you are your baby are reunited soon .

I suppose she might not have the same wish, don't you think so?

Postpartum depression is a likely cause. Its very common but causes new mothers (esp 1st time) to sometimes act very irrationally. Rubbish bin and successful and attempted infanticide are extreme cases. Its a health care problem that has been largely over looked because of women's perceived social status and needs to addressed by the medical / physiological communities in much greater detail then it is currently. Be glad for the child and push for changes to help end the problem.
