A quack doctor was arrested Saturday morning (Nov 11) at a condominium in Pattaya after he was wanted in Lampang for allegedly performing breast implant on a young man who eventually died.

Police identified the suspect as Mr Thanatpong Chitthirapirom who allegedly performed breast implants on 22-year old Chiratchaya Kampoon at a cosmetic surgery clinic in Lampang on October 28.

The victim’s heart stopped beat during the operation and he was rushed to Lampang provincial hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Compare that to a western medical clinic. Not only your credentials as a doctor are examined on a yearly basis, they even come by to check your facilities, staff, and licenses.

But in the medical hub called Thailand everybody can open a clinic and perform any kind of medical procedure in unhygenic rooms. Nobody bother to check anything, that is, until things go wrong and they stumble over eachother to point out what was wrong.

Nothing like this would ever happen in a western clinic...

In a land with so many government employees and officials, its amazing how little people are held accountable for basic adherence to the laws and regulations.

There are also car crashes in every country, that doesnt make the Thai driving style and lack of policing okay.

"Nobody bother to check anything", even it was checked, as a medical degree can be bought.

Recently, an 18-year-old Chinese female here in Toronto, who called herself "Doctor" Kitty, was charged with conducting illegal surgery which was performed in the basement of where she lived.  Why people went to her for these procedures is yet unknown.  Apparently, she had been performing them for some time but the media did not state the types of surgery being done.  Therefore, I suggest that people who constantly criticise what happens in Thailand without knowing what goes on outside of Thailand should look before leaping.
