Hello,  if I am on the 2nd year of my OA, now using reentry permits,  and I want to travel to Laos   Nov 15  for few days,  (my 1 year stamp before OA expired is through Dec 1) , is there any reason to get a re-entry permit  vs.  a ?free  30 days stamp,  I will be   travelling by  air both directions   from DM

If you don't get a re-entry permit you will not have a non immigrant visa entry required to apply for an extension of stay at immigration.

You would have to convert the visa exempt entry to a non immigrant visa at immigration for a fee of 2000 baht and then apply for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa.

well I wasn't planning on an Extension of Stay,  but maybe  next time I should .  What is the cost of the Extension of Stay with the US Embassy letter of income these days,  vs.  just the $200 for a new O-A  Los Angelas , USA  Visa ?

The income affidavit will cost $50 or 1750 baht at the embassy. The fee for an extension of stay at immigration is 1900 baht.

Also no need a medical or police certificate.

so, in this particular scenario, joe,  was it a waste of 1/2 day @CW and 1000THB  to have gotten  the  re-entry permit ??

No it wasn't. You still have a entry from your OA visa that you can extend at immigration now.

If you are in Bangkok you could get the income affidavit tomorrow morning since there are appointments available to get it done. Then apply for the extension later in the day.

sorry joe, but I am leaving country Sunday, no plan to attempt  an "extension" ,  too late at this point ...... I think I would have gotten a free 30 days stamp  , even without the    "re-entry permit" , hence a waste of 1000 Baht ?

Let's say  I have  RMD distributions from an IRA  do those count  towards the "income" at the US Embassy?  .......  I am aware it's an affidavid and the CW may not ask for any "proof"  ...... but ...... I need to choose whether to  do a new round of OA then possibly  EOS   vs.  ?60- day tourist visas with 30 day extensions          from a hassle and cost and frequency  of  Thailand  visits  prediction

chubby you do understand that you can only get an O-A in your home country !

And yes, RMD is part of your income so can be included in your "calculations" for Embassy affidavit
