Police in Prajinburi are hunting for a female fraudster who ripped off nearly 100 people in a share scheme called "Jae Khem Thao Share".

Victims were offered high interest rates that they initially received before the fraudster went into hiding.

Thai Rath said that Khemthong Janthawat is a factory employee turned confidence trickster.

One of the victims - Panatda Pakkaew said she invested 1,250,000 baht in the scheme after many of her friends said it was a good idea. She got 50,000 baht in interest at first and kept her money in hoping to make more.

But soon the organizer of the scheme did not answer Facebook or Line and calls to her house revealed she had fled the area,

Police said there were 97 victims in the 10 million baht fraud. They are hunting Khemthong - known as "Jae Khem" - gathering evidence and preparing to charge her with fraud.

Greed + Ignorance = a potent mixture

Amazing! Every single "high interest" scheme I hear of seems to turn out to be a con, yet people here seem to fall for it every time. It's quite difficult to feel sympathy for people who can be so gullible and stupid as to invest in such as this. They really should have seen it coming.

The dumb get dumber, its not worth spending the time trying to warn them is it, mind you with a leader like that, it says it all

The world is full of stupid people that think they can make quick money wothout work or education. Baffling!

It's axiomatic that if they are "gullible and stupid" they would not, could not, "have seen it coming".

They are indoctrinated, as a matter of state policy, into a position of such vulnerability.

Part of that indoctrination is to dismiss "foreign knowledge", about anything, and to trust only what their fellow Thais tell them.

In this case they appear to have not had the knowledge of a Ponzi Scam, while their fellow (equally gullible) Thais told them it was good idea.

"Taking candy from a baby" is nothing to be proud of, neither should the "baby" be held in contempt.

Yes, and it seems the perpetrators discourage the marks from discussing the scheme with Westerners. We have more experience with this type of scam.

How much is high interests ?

If it's too good to be true....chances are that it is not !

Cases often arise with customers getting cheated/conned/scammed even from reputable Thai Banks despite all the safety infrastructure and policies.

So what can one expect from any lone ranger freelancer offering high yield investment portfolios !!??....

Such scams occur even in the western world, so hang on to your grub in Thailand, don't get greedy, spend it responsabily and have fun !

She got paid interest of 4%. When your friends are advising usually not a good scheme. They may have invested and don't want to loose face. Silly investment.

a ponzi sceme.... known in many variations... with the deposits of the next the interest of the first is payed asking him to invest more once all the investments are on a high level the fraudster close and run... modern banking is similar... but here the taxpayer pays the interest of the highrollers and politicians are on the banksters payroll eu... us...

unfortunately the thought of making money outweighs all common sense here, greed is too much a part of too many people
