Hello, I wanting to obtain the visa as being parent of Thai kid in Penang.

What can be used as financial proof, 

someone told he need to show a original passbook Thailand

Do a printed out stated bank account as foreign account can work ?

Yes, that should be accepted. As long as the balance in the foreign account is the equivalent of at least 400K baht.
