Southern provinces warned of heavy rains, flash floods

By The Nation

The Meteorological Department on Friday warned residents of 12 southern provinces to brace themselves for heavy rains and possible flash flooding from Friday to Tuesday.

The department said a strong northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the South would unleash heavy rains and strong winds in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Phangnga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

The warning said strong winds with waves 2-3 metres high are likely in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. All ships should proceed with caution, and small boats along the Gulf of Thailand should be kept ashore.

People should also be cautious of inshore waves, the department added.

Not sure if I would trust on this prediction. Lately there has been few heavy rain warnings for Phuket and at the end of the day, the Sun was shining.

Quite windy today here on Koh Lanta. And we're taking the ferry to Lipe tomorrow!  ugh!

Enjoy your trip to the white sand beaches! Are you traveling with the ferry which is supposed to travel between the islands?

Here is the Phuket / Southern Thailand rain radar

Great, please take the notes how far north the ferry travels. If it comes all the way to Phuket, I'd like to take it to do island hopping in February.

AFAIK, the ferry which is advertised as going from Phuket all the way to Langkawi is partly a minibus drive.
