The chief disaster prevention and mitigation officer of Loei on Friday put out a public call for assistance. His office urgently needs blankets, jackets and other winter clothing for some 134,000 poor people to survive the coming winter, said Pramual Lapjit.

Pramual said his office discovered through a survey that 134,572 low-income people in Loei’s 14 districts need winter clothing.

Thai Beverage Plc became the first private firm to step in and help the poor this year by handing out 7,000 blankets via local administrations.

Friday morning, the lowest temperature in Loei was recorded at 10 degrees Celsius at the Phurua mountaintop while the Phu Kradueng National Park saw the mercury drop to 12 C.

I suppose they got their blankets and clothes last year and the year before and so on.

What happened to those? I am not saying don't give to them. They need for sure. But something seems wrong. It should be possible to keep the stuff for many winters.

Why not register them and give them the new stuff only when they bring back the old things after they are worn out.

Perhaps there wasn't an appeal for clothing last year?

Maybe alot of the clothes, if they were given last year have worn out, or there weren't enough of them?

It's been the same thing every year for the past fifteen years or more, when the cold season ends the clothes get pitched.

Well poor people do not live in the nice mansions that the rich Thais and Farangs do, or even the

clean hotels that some stay at.  Their shacks are usualy full of  bugs and if they do not have good

sealed storage bins then clothes of any kind do not last very long. Glad I was able to explain

this nasty problem.

The freezing folks sell it back to the people from where they got them, who will then store those clothes until the next winter arrives, the same "new" clothes will be handed out again, and then new invoices for purchase of winter clothes will be "created" from which they can get money again from the government. To be repeated in 2561, 2562, 2563..... this is Thailand.....
