Notebook mainboard repair

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a place specialising in chip-level mainboard repair? Needs to be fairly professional with diagnostic equipment and access to schematics etc.

In the past I have tried several of those hole-in-the-wall places that (used to be?) at the back of Pantip but haven't had much success.

You dont mention where you are ?

I dont think you will find anyone that repairs Motherboards, its not cost effective as a replacement board is relatively cheap. Components on motherboards/cct boards are not repairable or replaceable. Chips on motherboards are soldered during manufacture at almost a microscopic level ,multi layer, they physically cant be removed and replaced, or sourced individually.

Dependant on the age of the PC, even replacing the motherboard, especially if its a labour intensive laptop,  costs the same a a new one.

Bin it.....sorry...........

Sorry, I'm in Bangkok.

I have approx 20 mainboards with various faults ranging from no video to bad charge circuit to DOA . They're all from quite high-end notebooks and will cost approx USD500 for replacements so it is worthwhile going to some effort.

I may need to send them to Shenzhen but was hoping to find somewhere local before doing that.

This is eye level many go down go down to micro level. A $100 repair often saves hundreds.

If you can get that done for $100 great but there is also the labour cost of diagnostics to determine the faulty chip (and more important, why did it fail), the cost of dismantling a laptop , and reassembly, to get to the motherboard. warranty on the repair etc

If the components have failed due to a power surge or overheating, then a good possibility of other faulty components.

Its great in theory but I never know anyone who has done these repairs for under the price of a new (with warranty) board.
