Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan on Wednesday reiterated that the junta would maintain its three-year-old ban on political activity.

“We haven’t discussed it and I don’t know if it will be possible to lift the ban,” Prawit said. “I still don’t see any readiness [to lift the ban].”

Prawit’s comment came after Interior Minister General Anupong Paochinda, who has been working to prepare for local elections, said he might ask Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to consider lifting the ban.

Shortly after the 2014 coup, National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) order no. 7/2014 restricted all kinds of political gatherings of five or more people. This has prevented political parties from making official moves, including preparing themselves for elections.

The order remains active as the 2017 permanent charter allows the NCPO to continue executing its absolute power until there is a new government.

On Wednesday, Prawit stressed that the junta government would find a way to ensure that all parties could follow procedures in the new political party bill, which designates a deadline for the parties to be prepared for an election.

“We’ll follow the road map,” he said briefly, referring to the junta’s often-altered timeline towards an election.

Ah, so they've run out of excuses and are now just taking the 'nonchalant' approach. If we act cool, everyone else will think it's no big deal. Who knows - maybe people will simply forget.

An additional stash of a cache find could cement the unreadiness.

................and happiness was returned to the people!

WIll hang around longer for more of that expensive Richard Mille watches to complete my collection.

No news story here. There was never any intention to lift the ban.

Might as well have the election tomorrow.

We know the outcome.

Monster raving loony military party 100%. All other non-political parties 0%

The Thai road to democracy is as all roads in Thailand, fraught with pot holes, road blocks, diversions, collisions and drivers in the wrong lane going in the wrong direction.

No reason why just no.  Those who invited the coup should be ashamed of themselves.  The Thai people voted for that charter that even Abhisit thought was sub standard in the hope that the junta would one day leave.  So much for trusting the junta.

Change always comes from below.

Nobody who has been dealt four aces is going to ask for a new deal.

What elections If anybody out in Thailand believes this government will hold elections then they also believe in the tooth fairy Please dont write any more election stories  They are all a myth

I think my wife has that same road map in the car, we always get lost and take forever getting nowhere !!!

must admit whoever writes the general's Friday night tv show knows a lot, I cannot help thinking it is the young Hamson officer that had a lot to say when they first took over.

Of course, he can't specify a time when he can lift the ban. He has had to give his watch up, so he doesn't even know the time now!

Agree, he seems to say all the right words, even if he lacks the ability to translate them into results, or even plans of action.

Whoever writes the monologues is skilled in propaganda and presses all the right buttons. It isn't Sanserm, who's a clod, and isn't the other army guy who's is less so but still a clod. And it certainly isn't Prayuth who probably doesn't understand half the words he uses. Whoever it is is fluent in English, the translations don't appear by magic and they are in good English, not Thainglish. I strongly suspect Prayuth has a farang on board, because  none of the Thais could create the English subtitles.

Hope he gets paid well.

He is a movie star in his spare time.

I wonder what caused this' an unidentified letter written in crayon and pegged to the high courts door stating someone heard that someone didn't like the fat cat with the nice watch? I am sorry Benny for using ur caricature, but he does look like him.
