Fish and trees

Is this fact or fiction ? I was recently at a ' farm ' where they had ponds and trees, the latter being for sale. The guy told me he had experienced a huge loss of fish from a pond that had teak trees close by. He said the leaves constantly blew into the pond resulting in an oily slick with disastrous results. I've never heard of this let alone experienced it. However, I do have a pond with about 15 4-5 year old teak trees around the edge. Yes, the leaves do blow in all the time especially at this time of year, but I haven't experienced any floating fish. I do pull as many of the leaves out as possible but I am wondering if I should think about chopping the trees down and plant something more fish friendly. Over to you fish experts for any comments please.
