Extention for Thai tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've got a tourist visa that grants me 60 days of stay in Thailand.  I heard one could extend it by 30 more days. Is it true? If yes, then how could I apply to have this thing done?

P.S. I have previously stayed in Thailand for 4 years over a 5 years period, is it going to be a problem?

Thank you so much.

30 say extensions are available. You would apply at the immigration office that covers the area you are staying in. They cost 1,900 baht.

You're previous stay won't affect qualifying for an extension.

Thank you.

So it's 100% success rate for the extension? Also do I need to give a reason for extending my stay?

Lastly, would this extension affect the next time when I want to apply to visit Thailand (next year)?

They are seldom denied so I would say about a 98% success rate. There is a space on the application form for the reason which in your case it would tourism.

No it would not.

Thank you for your elaborate answer.

I had a little trouble applying for my current tourist visa due to the fact I overstayed for 2 months(due to a sudden illness) over 2 years ago. I heard that after 2 years that shouldn't be a problem any more. Given my particular case, would it still be OK for me to apply for a visa extension?

Also could you kindly tell me which immigration office should I go to in Bangkok, please?

I regularly do this. I have been unsuccessful on a number of occasions but always ultimately successful with persistence.

Reasons for initial rejection were :-

1. The current permission to stay (the 60 days) was deemed to be insufficiently close to the end. Sometimes immigration offices won't extend unless you are down to the final week. e.g. Permitted to stay till 24 Dec 2017. Try on 7 Dec 2017 to extend. Told to go away and come back in final week.

2. No extension unless condo staff accompany me and file a TM 30. This was Sri Racha. I went away and did it at Jomtien.

I believe tourist visa extensions are dealt with in Chaeng Wattana but I left Bangkok a number of years ago. If I am wrong, somebody will be along to correct me.

Chaeng Wattana immigration. Map and info on getting there. http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/location1.html

Probably the most tourist friendly office in the country.
