BANGKOK, 12th December 2017 (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is set to promote community-based tourism in an effort to boost grassroots economies.

Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat has disclosed that his ministry together with the Thai Chamber of Commerce and tourism related agencies will develop a community tourism database in an effort to boost the tourism and hospitality industry.

Geographical and cultural information of each community will be collated in order to help tourism related agencies make informed decisions when it comes to developing a campaign.

The minister noted that the identity of each community will not be changed under any circumstances.

Tourists will have a chance to experience the unique lifestyle and culture of Thai communities.

The minister added that more than 100 communities across the country are now ready to welcome tourists, and around 100 more will be ready soon.

All this sounds like fluff and hot air from the new Minister. At least before from the previous Minister we had something definitive even if some of her ideas were a bit misguided.

This new promotion should at least be given a name like the Hub of Community Culture just to keep with tradition.

I am trying to think what specifically are the unique lifestyles and culture in the small villages in Isaan. Poverty is one and boredom another while going to the temple usually fills a bit of time as does consuming alcohol.
