Ford Everest - nav/map updates?

Have Sync 3 v. 2.3 in my 2017 Everest. Found quite a few discrepancies in the built in Navi. How is the map updated? Is it done when Sync 3 updates from current v. 2.3 or is done as a stand-alone update? Anyone have any experience with this?

IMHO any built-in navigation system is money out of the window. There are many free (as in Free Beer) solutions using OpenStreetMaps or HERE Maps, which are frequently updated for FREE. I would hate to pay hefty sums for an update like Toyota is charging for example. Give your mobile phone some reasonable Job2Do...

I am aware of free maps and that using mobile phone is an option. My question was if anyone know how the maps within the Sync 3 are updated - by Sync 3 updates or standalone updates of the map system.

Have you registered with Ford? This should tell you if there are any updates.

Yes I have. Says I have the latest. But what I asking is if the Navi is updated through this or separately (SD card/CD or similar)?
