Qatar Airways celebrated the start of its new direct non-stop service from Doha to Chiang Mai on Wednesday (December 13), its inaugural flight greeted with a traditional water-cannon salute.

The new seasonal service operates four times weekly from Doha, with a flight time of just over six hours.

“Today’s inaugural flight to historic Chiang Mai marks a further growth in the already strong bonds between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Thailand,” said Qatari Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim bin Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti.

“I am very proud that Qatar Airways now flies to four beautiful destinations in Thailand and will soon add its fifth, with Pattaya joining its global network in January. The increase in business, tourism and trade between our two nations that these flights support cannot be underestimated and it gives me great pleasure to celebrate with the people of Chiang Mai on this occasion.”

Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker noted that Thailand continues to grow in popularity with holiday-makers from his country.

“The new route we have launched today reflects the increasing demand from our customers across our network for more high-quality leisure destinations, especially in the Far East.

“With the choice of four flights a week, passengers travelling from Chiang Mai are now connected seamlessly to more than 150 destinations, via our state-of-the-art hub in Doha. We will add a fifth Thai destination when we expand our services to include Pattaya, starting on January 28.”

Qatar Airways flies an Airbus A330-200 aircraft to Chiang Mai, offering 24 seats in Business class and 236 seats in Economy.

The jet’s entertainment system offers up to 4,000 entertainment options.

The seasonal service will operate from December 12 into May and resume for the winter 2018 season next October.

It isn't direct to Doha from Chiang Mai as far as I can tell - a stopover in Bangkok. Direct from Doha to Chiang Mai only.

Their search-engine offers the direct non-stop flights where available, and flights via BKK on other dates, so you may indeed see both possibilities.

But there are definitely direct-flights, in both directions, on some dates.

And interestingly some inbound flights in May are on an A319, with a tech-stop in RGN.

Would be rather nice for the passengers if Qatar had to use the all-business class version .

Now just want to see, in the regular mid-January Sale, what their lowest-price for this route will be ?

I need 4-5 tickets for next year, CNX-LHR, but already bought the first one  ...  I'd definitely pile-in for B25k return !

Despite what they say in the OP about May & October, I'm now seeing direct-flights between CNX & DOH on their booking-engine, right through the summer too  ...  perhaps their problems in the Gulf-region have released some of their smaller jets to test demand for the route right through the year ?

Prices from about B30k return.
