NLA: Amendment of Political Party Act could delay elections

BANGKOK, 18th December 2017 (NNT) – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has advised that an amendment to the organic Political Party Act could push back the general election.

NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said today that if the legislature agreed to take former member of the National Reform Council Paiboon Nititawan’s advice to revise the organic Political Party Act, the general election could be postponed, given the fact that it takes at least two months to amend an organic bill that has already been passed into law.

Paiboon earlier this week submitted a petition to the president, asking the lawmakers to close the existing gap between political parties, especially between large and minor parties.

Pornpetch added that such issue has never been raised in Thailand before and that it would require time, effort, and thorough research if the legislators decided to push for such reform.

So they have made a new law aimed at weakening big parties such as PPT, and they just find out right now that this law is not helping their new puppet parties! :coffee1:

AND here we go again. Just can't believe a word that comes out of the General's mouth.

Here we go with the the delays Why am I not surprised about this ?

And when they run out of excuses for a delay, the last straw will be: predicted adverse weather conditions.

Well I understand that the election is currently scheduled for November/December of next year. Given the disruption which can be caused by snow and ice, perhaps delaying it until more clement weather conditions apply is reasonable?

I believe that in several decades time global warming will ensure that average temperatures are higher...

What does Prayut want to do?

He's the one who committed the elections for 2018 with the US and EU.

We'll likely hear from CDC Chairman Meechai who seems to be Prayut's NCPO unofficial legal spokesman regarding the new organic laws.

Frankly, the whole issue of equality between existing large political parties and new small political parties (like the Smart Party created by Paiboon as a quasi-military party http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/politics/30292950) with regard to party registration has been exacerbated by Prayut's delay to lift the political ban after the Political Party Act was passed.

Either Prayut says "no" to an amendment or finds a really, really big hidden cache of weapons (maybe an old tank) and/or conspiracy to overthrow the government to justify a delay in the election into 2019.

but Prayut will be looking for an excuse to to delay elections or 25 years or more

Great news for the General.

It's not like no one in the world has ever figured out a similar situation.  Do some research.  If they have to figure it out, it may take years to accomplish it correctly
