Police reform committee expects conclusion on plan by April 2018

BANGKOK, 20th December 2017 (NNT) – The government-appointed committee in charge of the reform of the police expects a conclusion on the overhaul plan by next April.

Gen. Boonsang Niampradit, chairman of the National Reform Committee in charge of the justice system (police), said on Tuesday that the committee has been working on the reform plan for over five months and it as less than four months until the deadline in April 2018.

Gen. Boonsang said that the committee has set up three subcommittees to work on the administration, the transfer and the decentralization of the work of the police, and the law enforcement, in order to help speed up the process.

He added that much progress has been achieved by each subcommittee and it is likely that the committee will be able to submit its proposal on changes in the system to promote and transfer law enforcement officers to the Cabinet for consideration by December 29, while the other issues are expected to be ready for submission by early April of next year.

Gen. Boonsang went on to say that relevant laws should also be amended to stay in keeping with the reform plan in hopes of improving the efficiency and the performance of the police.

That is excellent, and this last paragraph would be a boon for Thailand if "improving efficiency and performance of the police" could be accomplished!

Good luck with that

Thailand the Hub of Committees. Nine months of committee and sub-committee meetings should involve a lot of overtime and travel expenses.

Even if predictably nothing worthwhile is achieved from these meetings the buffet lunches and hotel expenses alone will give a big boost to the economy.

One of my new years resolutions was going to be....Don't be cynical in 2018....guess that is on hold for a few more years....just too much subject matter.

Reform the cops wow  I have one reform that should be enforced Make the cops do their job Is that asking to much? The committee will hand over the police force their suggestions lots of smiles from the police commissioner he will hand it to his secretary  she will hand it to the office staff and it will be used as toilet paper that afternoon

That will still be centrally overseen by army's Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) administration as per a Prayut's Article 44 Order last month. Prayut is not about to let decentralization allow police and law enforcement administrated independently by local officials.
