Motorists warned of wild elephants in Khao Ang Runai

The Highway Department has warned motorists to beware of wild elephants while driving past the Khao Ang Ruenai Wildlife Sanctuary in Sanam Chai Khet and Tha Takiap districts of Chachoengsao province.

The department issued a warning on Wednesday (Dec 20), saying that wild elephants were recently found to have strayed out of the the sanctuary to roam on highways, especially the Sanam Chai Khet-Tha Takiap section of the Chachoengsao-Wang Namyen highway.

The elephants may cause accidents because the highway is popular to motorists.

As a precaution, motorists are advised to drive carefully and not to go faster than the speed limit. If they happen to confront an elephant, they should stop and keep at least a 30-metre distance from it. They should wait until the elephant leaves the highway before driving past the spot.

Wild elephants? They were furious...

As it is a Thai elephant, obviously it would make a sudden U-Turn on the road....how to react in that case ?

"As a precaution, motorists are advised to drive carefully and not to go faster than the speed limit. If they happen to confront an elephant, (or a Thai-Driver) they should stop and keep at least a 30-metre distance from it. They should wait until the elephant (or a Thai-Driver) leaves the highway before driving past the spot."
Cheers.
