People urged to join campaign to stop “highway deaths”

People have been urged to take part in a campaign to “stop deaths on highways with traffic eye volunteers” has been jointly launched under a plan drawn up by a National Legislative Assembly (NLA) committee to reduce losses on highways.

The launch of the campaign was jointly declared on Wednesday (Dec 20) by Surachai Liangboonlertchai, first vice president of the NLA, deputy police chief Pol Gen Wirachai Songmetta, and Dr Taejing Siripanich, secretary-general of the Don’t Drive Drunk Foundation.

Dr Taejing said the Thai people should join hands to make roads in Thailand safe by volunteering to be “traffic eyes”.

He urged people to install a camera in their cars as a way of protecting themselves while driving, especially during the New Year. On seeing traffic law violations, they are advised to take video clips of what happens and send them to various social media.

“If your clips lead to the arrests of traffic law violators for legal action, you will receive a certificate of honour from the first vice NLA president (Mr Surachai) plus a cash reward,” Dr Taejing said.

And the countdown to the 7 deadliest days of road carnage continues.:post-4641-1156693976:

“If your clips lead to the arrests of traffic law violators for legal action, you will receive a certificate of honour from the first vice NLA president (Mr Surachai) plus a cash reward,” Dr Taejing said.

So the police still sits in their tents and is waiting for video's to be sent to them...they are soo lazy and still get away with it plus paid of course.

Yep! That´s right! Let all the people that causes the accidents be a part of trying to tell others to drive exactly like them. Good solution! That will really solve a lot. :clap2:

Pity we didn't have the "eye volunteers" for the collection of the RTP monthly envelopes.

Yeah, right! Standing looking at the traffic will really help. Especially if you have a death wish!

And several defamation law suites and possible prosecution under the Computer Crime Act.

Let alone sedition charges and "bringing (whoever/whatever) into disrepute.

volunteers for goodness sake... get the police adequately trained and get them doing their job, it's not like they're doing anything else, get the judicial system working effectively, get a robust driving test in place, MOT for vehicles, i could  go on, but will any of it happen? not a chance. go the volunteers then.

Let the general public put the road violators on candid eyes ? This will end up in people getting even with their neighbours or ex relationships.

The ex-RDA in East Germany during the cold war, used similar tactics amongst it's citizens, encouraging public to become informants and make denunciation. It created a climate of fear, repression and paranoïa.

Law enforcement is in the sole hands and responsability of the Police and nobody else, not matter what, why, or where.

Another program and highlight of the  Way Thangs Are... nothing changes...  protect your own.

Very few people die on the highways you idiots, speeds are too slow, most die in drunken stupidity on motorcycles on the back streets and byways, getting from one karaoke bar or party to the next....

Stop your stupid "campaigning" and start educating children at a a young age and actually punish wrongdoers.

My dash cam captures approximately a violation every 5 seconds if driving on highway 11.  What's a violation anyway?  Failure to yield right of way; failure to stop at lights and signs; speeding; aggressive driving; not maintaining a lane and driving like there are no lines on the road. Passing on blind corners.  What criteria will the government impose?  Unconnected people get fines; connected people get a pass.  And considering you post a car's drivers license plate on social media, you're open to getting sued.
This is an idea that will not be uniformly applied.  Thailand needs patrol cars and trained patrol officers on the road citing drivers for moving violations.  Until then, it's business as usual.

This initiative is called 'Pass the Buck.'  Rather than go out looking for killers-in-cars, RTP say 'you do our job & maybe we'll pay; maybe we'll sue you.'

"Joke of the year"

Face  facts, the people who actually  drive like total t w a t s are the ones who will take ZERO notice of  this or any other measures except being stopped by having their vehicles CRUSHED.

Self preservation is an alien concept.

I won't take part of the Thai carnage as I'll be off for 2 weeks Bali on Tuesday.

No problem when smoking on the beach overthere.

E-cigs are also allowed...

Well sometimes they do work but i've never seen it at the roads, especially not around newyear when they sit under tents everywhere and don't even look at the traffic.

Today i saw a motocy-officer from the highway police again, they sure look very professional and i 've also seen them writing tickets to ALL cars parked on the road.

Also last week i saw them writing a fine to an overloaded truck they had stopped on the BKK ringroad.

So i hope Thailand gets more highway police who also patrol outside the highways.

I suppose you do not understand the meaning of "top up their salary"

Just equip the Police with proper and many more cruisers and get them to patrol, like a hundred other countries do! Why is this obvious to everyone except this Gov't!

All joking aside, of all the dumb nonsense I've read over the years, this article takes the biscuit!

"Traffic eyes", yet another "campaign", installing cameras to "protect" you and "holding hands"!

The mind boggles under such juvenile, moronic crap.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever change until 1) the police get a good kick up the ar*e and crack down on traffic offenders and 2) harsh(er) fines are handed down to all who ignore the rules of the road.

Campaigns, holding hands, etc. is pointless. The longer they wait to fix this problem, the longer it'll take to actually solve it.

Accidents happen but some accidents can be avoided.

But if they are a HiSo caught on camera , it would still be irrelevant anyway...

Thinking you should have maybe capitalised "ALL who ignore"...

Oh! by the way, who the hell is the token farang in the picture?

What a joke.   Instead of making the police do their jobs
