I have decided I want to learn about IPv6 and was about to update my TP-Link Wireless N router firmware to add support for IPv6 when a search in this section of the forum lead me to a post where a TV member reported there was no IPv6 support on TOT.

Is anyone using IPv6 over their TOT Fiber connection? (Specifically, I am connecting via Mae Rim in Chiang Mai)

Also, has anyone carried out the TL-WR840N(EU)_V2_160406 firmware upgrade on their TP Link router?

I also have an iPad with an AIS SIM. Does the AIS wireless network support IPv6?

TOT call center staff told me they don't support it. WOW!!

AIS had no clue what IPv6 was and I had to give up. Got my daughter to post in Thai on Pantip web site (awaiting replies) but I would still like to hear feedback from members of this forum.

They fully support IPv6, although for some reason my router wont give me an IPv6 connection today.

Edit to mention that they support IPv6 on their Fiber network.  No idea if their mobile network also support IPv6.

AIS Fibre and AIS Mobile support IPv6....they lead the pack for Thailand ISP/mobile operators...see a couple of snapshots/articles below.

Now TOT according to some IPv6 stats page does have a tiny, little bit of IPv6 capability...probably in their data centers for testings purposes would be my guess...see a snapshot at the bottom.

Also, keep in mind even if your ISP/mobile service provider provides IPv6 capability in needs to be activated on your account by the ISP (it may not be automatically activated...you may have to ask to have it activated) "and your computer/mobile device/router must be IPv6 capable with IPv6 enabled on your equipment.  Both ends of the communication connection chain (i.e, the ISP and you) must be IPv6 capable and activated.   I'm on AIS Fibre and had to ask to have IPv6 activated.

Now for mobile service I'm with DTAC...pretty sure they do not have IPv6 capability as IPv6 stats pages I looked at show 0% usage.  And I'm pretty sure most mobile operators use CGNATs which greatly helps to offset the IPv4 shortage through IPv4 pool sharing so some of the Thailand mobile ISP don't seem to be in a rush to get IPv6 capability (with the exception of AIS Mobile) as it does cost a money to provide IPv6 capability....setting up a CGNAT is cheaper...faster.

Regarding AIS Fibre

Quote

A Thai ISP that started as a computer rental business in 1986 has become the country’s first to transition to dual-stack for fixed broadband, with IPv6 traffic directly globally routed from the customer to the external network, and IPv4 customers behind CGN. And thanks to a great deal of planning, it has done so without any business interruption.

AIS (Advanced Info Service) now provides all its AIS Fibre subscribers with IPv6. Public v6 became the default service for all new AIS Fibre customer packages from 1 April this year. As of June 16, existing customers had their public IPv4 recalled and have been provided with private v4 and public v6. AIS Fibre has a target of 6.5 million ‘homepasses’ by end of this year.

Can't speak for AIS Mobile as I'm with DTAC Mobile, but I am with AIS Fibre for my home internet and have IPv6 with them....and they definitely know about IPv6 as you may need to call them to have them activate or deactivate IPv6 on your AIS Fibre account.   I've talked to AIS Fibre a couple times specifically about IPv6 on some issues/curiosity questions...every Call Center rep I got knew about IPv6 from a standpoint of do you want it activated, deactivated, having problems, etc.   They could tell you if it was activated or not on your AIS Fibre account....and if it wasn't they would forward a request to tech support to activate it...or forward a request to deactivate it...either activate or deactivate usually occurs within hours.....when I asked to have IPv6 activated within 30 minutes it was activated.   But if you are having IPv6 problems really no need to ask your ISP to deactivate IPv6 for your account on their end; instead, just deactivate it on your end by disabling IPv6 on your router, computer, device, etc.

And as shown in my earlier/above post AIS Mobile has IPv6 capability....don't know if it's activated automatically or you have to ask to have it activated---AND your mobile device must be IPv6 capable.  Even if IPv6 is activated on your AIS Mobile account if your mobile device does not have IPv6 capability/have IPv6 enabled you will not have IPv6 connectivity.  Both ends of the communications chain must be IPv6 capable and activated.

Thanks Guys.

So it looks like I can forget about my TOT home fiber connection for now, which is fine as long as I can somehow enable IPv6 on my iPad Air 2 and it's 4G connection to AIS.

Now that Pib has confirmed IPv6 support on AIS 4G, I can push them to enable it - if it is not enabled already.

Don't see anything on my iPad about IPv6, even though I read that it is supported.
