More uninvited guests in Thai tinned fish - this time tapeworms

A woman is demanding answers from a leading supplier of tinned fish after finding worms in several cans she opened for her dinner.

The news comes hot on the heels of another similar case last week.

Surang Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya said she bought the tins from a shop near her home in Ratchaburi.

On closer inspection she was sure that long white things embedded in the flesh of the fish were worms. After opening the first can she opened two more that were the same.

The rounded heads and tails were intact on some of the specimens.

She said her son sent a sample to be examined by a lab technician friend in Bangkok who confirmed that they were tapeworms known as "payathi tua teut" in Thai.

She took some of the specimens to the Democrat Party HQ in Ratchaburi yesterday to shame the authorities into doing something about it.

Public health officials are now carrying out their own tests.

As is usually the case, Daily News did not say what brand the fish were.

Worms are high in protein, Thai veggies are high in banded herbicides and pesticides.

So buy tinned fish,at your own risk, this is an example of why the libel laws

should not be a criminal offences, the population needs to know about these

things so they can make an informed choice,to buy or not.

My cat just got lucky.  He loved tinned tuna and my wife just stocked up for my lunch.

Shouldn't be a problem in a country where they eat anything that crawls.

"Surang Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya said she bought the tins from a shop near her home in Ratchaburi.'

This lady is a VIP, as per the name. She has opened a real can of worms and will not go away until she has satisfactory explanations from the canning company.

Hope it's not cans of tuna. Wish they say what cans the worms come from.

Well if the herbicides and pesticides haven’t harmed you, I guess your not a cabbage....,or a pest. Good news all round ?

Hmm, others might disagree...

Ah 'cmon, how much does a little worm take away from her plate?

Why didn't they name the brand so that people could avoid buying High protein tinned Worms instead of fish.

Greed rules, 70% of vegetables are filled with a mix of multiple pesticides so no surprise that meat follows same "rules" - Thailand needs reforms

I always buy three lady cooks, I do like my angels on horseback, as my mother used to call them. Which brand at fault? The public have a right to know!

This is what happens when raw sewerage is pumped into the seas. Crabs, lobsters, prawns and other bottom feeders (no pun intended) are an even greater risk.
