I'd forgotten about that, not heard it mentioned for years now. Yes it's a very good German bottled beer.

They have started selling a lot more German wheat beers in Tesco's and maxvalue around bkk...... 130--150thb for 500ml but worth every penny if you don't want to drink cheap Thai chemical produced  piss

No more local thai "beer" for me until they allow the making and selling of craft beer.  I save my money for real farangland craft beers.

There's plenty of craft beer around. This isn't 1999.

I don't understand people equating alcohol content with quality. Less alcohol doesn't mean less quality.

Many world class beers are under 5%. I find Chang more drinkable at the lower strength. 6.4% never suited the pilsner style. People often talk about how 'strong" Guinness is, well it's 4.3% only. I've home brewed for years and alcohol content is meant to be style specific.

I remember when I first came to Thailand Chang had quite a kick to it. The quality control was not that great and sometimes you'd get a very potent batch 10% ABV. So much for the "Changover"

How would you ever know it was 10%abv?

Did you have some sort of test kit while out drinking?

In the really touristy towns down south. Not much outside of Touristville.

Maxvalue and villa  tops and even Tesco   all have good German and Belgian  beers in them now although it is often sold out because I usually buy the whole shelf...

They don't order in loads because it's probably more expensive than the locals will pay for it

Yes, and it's not really "craft beer" as suggested.

Belgium is lagging behind when it comes to "craft beers". Sad to say.

Of course we still have about 400 different "old style" beers, each with their own style glass.

And yes, unfortunately, we have Stella and Jupiler as our best selling beers, I believe they are now owned by a Brazilian (American?) company. Jupiler was actually quite drinkable before the marketing boys destroyed it (it is now not too sweet, not too sour, not too bitter, in 1 word: tasteless and therefore ideal for the tasteless masses).

And to add insult to injury, one of our better kriek beers - Mort Subite - will from now on be marketed worldwide by Heineken.

Heineken selling beer??? What has this world come to???

The  topic is/was chang

Try to keep up......

Sorryyyyyyyyyy.

Yes, this thread is about Chang, not about beer.

I got carried away, I am Belgian.

Chang used to be a reasonable Carlsberg imitation, some years ago.....

Chimay is another great beer they now sell in Thai

Some people think its too strong but they should stick to drinking  spy coolers and bacardi breezers .....

Chimay Bleu - my favourite beer.

I rather drink 1 bottle of 9% than 2 bottles of 4,5%, for the bite and for the taste.

Was kinda shocked, saw Erdinger Dunkel on sale for 150 I think, its excellent value for a very special beer.

plus you can just drink it warm as the quality is there.

You can find it for 132 in some supermarkets... I'm drinking one right now lol

Also worth watching out for is Franciskaner and weisensteipher and maiselweiss (spellings probably wrong)

They're starting to become popular in some bkk supermarkets
