As an oil worker (not SE Asia) I haven't even heard of a single one in Thailand mate.

All the falang oil workers in thailand (not that many) work via the big oil companies in the specialised areas or senior drilling positions. Local thais normally make up the numbers.

Singapore might be your best bet.

British Bulldog??? Never heard of them mate. Can you PM me their contact info pse?

The rigs in thailand AFAIK are gas rigs not oil.

If your based in Blighty I'd consider contacting the agencies there and seeing what the've got. Don't bother emailing firstly, phone them as i've only ever had one contract from an email application.

What area do you work in? Construction? Drill? Production?

Alright I'm now PMing you the info I've gleaned on the drill crew who work out in Thailand, I won't post it as it involves a rival forum (sorry guys).

Let me get this right.

Working on an oil rig, that's off shore right.

So why does it matter where it is?

My advice would be go for the high paying jobs and spend your leave in Thailand (if that is what you want to do).

The simple act of declaring 'Seeking work in Thailand' will automatically flag the response "We can knock this guy's rate down'.

Hmmmm thaought a little on what you said? I am right in asking for outfits in Singapore, my company and many others have offices there and work is quite plentiful in the industry. As for wages they can pay the same rate overseas with accommodation. As for going back and forward I know of many people who do that and are sick of it already. Many people work offshore in the Gulf and Singapore so I do not think the question is a stupid one. :o

I know folk that do what Guesthouse mentioned. It can be a drag flying all over the place every two weeks but finding work in SE Asia offshore on rigs / platforms and the like is a lot more difficult than it is in finding work in the North Sea (where a high density of oil / gas fields are).

Also if your permenantly working for an oil company the fly in / fly out is an economically viable option as you know where the next pay check is coming from. Whereas if (like me) you got from contract to contract (Feast to Famine to Feast etc) its more viable to wait until a slump season hits before relocating to somewhere else and then watching the horizon for more work.

The oil prices are pretty shtty at the moment (from a oil operators POV) so it may mean oil work is going to less easy to predict where the big jobs are kicking off.

Most people who do that get paid door to door so who cares, sitting on a plane scooping back cocktails. I can think of worse ways of making a living. Its usually 4 on 4 off which works out just nice with the new visa rules. If you work in Thailand get use to the idea of paying Thai income tax, and getting a work visa, getting US$, trying to get your money out of the country if you save any. etc... Your way better of getting work in the UK then living here. Many aussies are doing just that as sterling is the way to go.
