NYE celebrations in Chiang Mai?

Last year I was at Tapae Gate to see in the New Year.

Hundreds of back packers and tourists almost piling on top of each other setting off their lanterns and balloons,  then within seconds past midnight, most of the bars, massage parlours and restaurants began to close, shutters being pulled down by the score, leaving hundreds of tourists milling about wondering where to go next. A few minutes later they started to disperse and that was that.

Better off to buy your own fireworks and drinks, invite a few friends round to your home and celebrate the New Year in without the need to pack it in at midnight.

Typical killjoy authorities in Chiang Mai.  However in saying that a few years ago it was downright dangerous to wander down Loi Kroh Rd.

Fireworks galore were been fired off in every direction. The road was a mess of used fireworks in the morning.

Zoe in Yellow is sure to have a big party night....until the fun police turn up.
