A 69-year-old Australian tourist was charged yesterday by Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court for unlawfully confining five Cambodians to have sex with him at his rental home. Kong Vichetr, a provincial police officer, identified the accused as James Bernard King, who was arrested on Thursday.

Mr Vichetr said the accused faces three to five years in prison if convicted and has been detained pending his trial.

Mr Vichetr said the accused was arrested following a complaint made by his Cambodian girlfriend You Kea, 39, who claimed she had been locked in a room along with her daughter, her younger sister and her two children. He added that the confinement occurred from Tuesday to Thursday last week.

“According to the victim’s complaint, Mr King said he would only unlock the doors if the girls agreed to have sex with him,” said Mr Vichetr. “He was arrested after our police raided the rented house in accordance with a provincial court warrant for inspection.”
