Which form? Returning to old address after leaving the kingdom

Featured Replies

I have done that only once more than a year ago and I don't exactly remember the procedure: Which form is one supposed to use to report returning to the old, already registered address? Is that the standard TM30? Or no form needed at all, just showing up with your passport and maybe boarding pass and the old registration confirmation with the barcode,? Thanks

Whether you need do another TM30 form or not depends upon the immigration office you have to go to.

You certainly would not need boarding passes when you go to immigration. Then will know when you left and returned by looking at the stamps in your passport.

I don't think they put a bar code on a TM30 form. I think you are referring to a 90 day report receipt that has one. You will not need to do a 90 day report until 90 days from the date you entered the country including that day in the count.

If you are on a long term extension of stay they probably will not expect you to do a new TM30 report. There have been mixed reports on when they want one.

Do I need to report to Immigration when arriving on a tourist exempt to inform them of where i'm staying? in my case my wife's house ,

if so I never have done one for 30 odd arrivals over the years, or will I have a bulk of fines to look forward to next visit ?

I am on long term extension, but they definitely do want such report. At least it was like that in 2017. I saw a Filipino family being fined big bucks when I did my last report of returning to the old address after leaving the kingdom in April 2017. They have a special counter for that. Not sure if that has changed since then. It is maybe not a full TM30, but reporting the return to the old address for sure. They use the old registration form with the barcode on it to update their data on the computer.

Have you ever had to have dealings with the immigration office in whose catchment area your wife's house lies during any of your previous visits (for e,g. extensions of stay, 90-day reporting, etc)? If not, you should not have accumulated any fines.

And , unless you are planning to seek an extension of stay or stay longer than 90 days, there is no need to report to them upon arrival for your next visit.

No I have only used visa exempts or 60 day TV and only stayed between 1 to 5 weeks in total

I should of said , I have entered Thailand 30 times and have stayed 1 week up to 5 weeks at a time over the last 15 years using visa exempts or 60 day TV's

I'd guess you can carry on as you are, until your situation changes.

If you decide to stay in Thailand longer than 90 days as an example, you must make a 90 day report.

Not doing that has several consequences, fines and difficulty in future extending visas etc.

However, as part of the 90 day report, I believe they check that someone made a TM30 within 24 hours of your arrival in the country.

Not having one may lead to fines and difficulty extending a visa.

So basically, as Joe already said:

If your visits to Thailand are such that you have no need to visit immigration, carry on as you are.

If however, this changes and you need to extend a visa or make a 90 day report, make sure someone made the TM30 when you arrived.

Someone, cos it's the house owner or landlord or hotel who should do it.

If they don't, then you have to do it.

My local Imm only want a TM30 whenever I arrive in the country and my wife arranged to do it by phone.

If we travel and stay in hotels or with friends, they don't need another TM30 when we get back to the wife's house, but every office make their own rules.

Reading the rules, it seems that I should do TM30 every time I change address but happily, my local Imm don't want that.

If you get into needing to do this, I suggest you ask your local Imm what they want, otherwise - stay away from them.

Thanks all, I now have a better understanding.

The TM30 issue referred to in post #10 might also arise were you ever minded in the future to apply for a 60-day extension for the purposes of visiting your wife.
