Prayut promises fight against poverty

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha

 

The government will draw up a road map to fight poverty based on HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy this year.

 

“We aim to reduce the number of poor people. Our help will first go to those registering themselves as low-income earners,” Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said. 

 

In the next phase, the government would provide assistance under a provincial-based model. 

 

“We will encourage groupings and inspire people to improve themselves,” he said.

Here we go again, he promised this before through cheap loans

So I take it he is going to pay of the loaners to get back the papers for land/car & motor bikes 

Some of these are at 20 % with no discount for early payment, so in other words they may get a very sizable loan from Gov to pay out the loaners who will still be making all that interest

 

Let’s fight proverty by asking the poor to pay for basic healthcare. Uniquely Thai.

suggest this road map - reverse coup vehicle to starting point, arrest and punish all the people you must have known had done wrong, ensure you keep to the vows to end corruption as you then progress forwards again and hold an election where parties will no longer be contesting in the belief the winners will become rich....

As in fighting against the poor. Sounds about right.

Don't feel too bad Khun Prayut, you bought them Chinese submarines.....what more could they want?

This is fantastic news. As we've seen in the last 3 years, K.Prayut always keeps his promises 

There we go again, this time another promises comes up from i know what i am doing.

In case they need a catchy slogan for this initiative I favor: "ROLEX for the peasants" - "Franck Muller here we come" or at least "Now everyone can SEIKO".

Stop moaning you peasants, we are buying you some nice submarines.

You need them more than anything, more than food in your bellies.

Only poverty i care about is my own, have to make sure my account dont drop below  a couple of billion.

Your good at distorting facts, they said they wont stop basic healthcare but will only charge for extra healthcare. So the poor are not charged for the basic healthcare. Now the question is what will they set as basic healthcare (that is wait and see)

 

Now how would you fund the extra healthcare as no budget is going to change and the military budget is below that of other countries around them. Do show some thinking and offer a good solution when you know the only thing is to raise taxes more. 

 

I personally have no idea how to do it without either raising taxes more and or ask co payment on extra healthcare.

 

Anyway the whole problem is that the education is not good here would the education be better the productivity would rise and people could make more money. The whole system is wrong because they spend as much as developed countries on their system per capita but get back a bad system.

 

I don't agree with soft loans and stuff, sure it could help if they can bundle their expensive loans into a loan that is at a better rate. But it also encourages them to spend even more if they can get extra money from a loan. Giving them money is also not a good idea as you don't want too many people dependent on the state (we see how that goes in developed countries). Education and a better economy are the way to go. Actually the only way to go.

Since the coup, the junta has continually tried to convince the people that the Thaksin inspired UHC program should be ditched or modified. It hasn't stopped doing that as part of the policy to uproot Thaksin regime. The junta favours a kind of privatised system that will benefit the big hospital and private clinic owners. Lately the junta has pushed for reforms with more determination and seem to ignored oppositions. Look at the National Health Security Bill which will sailed through by the puppet NLA despite only 4 public hearings which utterly failed to appease opponents and general public. Little trust in the NLA to defend the UHC as they try to dismantle Thaksin's legacy. 

 

As for ways to lessen the costs and help the poor, IMHO we should turn to insurance. This was proposed by some doctors also. The social security and the civil servant program can support an insurance scheme that can be paid by their contribution each month. As for the extreme poor, insurance should be cheap and affordable and perhaps subsidized by the government.

At least you came up with an answer and I don't have the answers for this problem either. But the junta was right that something had to change, because Thaksin his scheme was a good one but no goverment ever funded it enough so that is why Toon had to do his run because hospitals have not enough funds. So they were right something had to change... but your right it should not affect the poor. 

 

Lets wait and see, but in the end something needs to be done to fund it that will cost extra money.. and who is going to pay for it is the question. However you look at it extra money has to come in one way or the other.  Like this it can't go on and the junta is 100% right there even a blind men could see that. Now if they can do something about it without hurting the poor would be great. But someone is going to have to pay. Maybe raise the vat or taxes on alcohol.
