Thailand ready to strengthen trade relations with U.K.

BANGKOK, 4 January 2018 (NNT) - The UK's Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Mark Field met with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday to discuss relations between the U.K. and Thailand as well as future trade cooperation by the two nations.

Prime Minister Prayut remarked on the two countries’ 400-year-long relationship and extended his warm welcome to the Minister of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Mr. Field visited Thailand to jointly preside over the third Thailand-United Kingdom Strategic Dialogue which is regarded as an important mechanism for developing the Thai-U.K. relations at policy level.

Gen.Prayut said Thailand is ready to work with the U.K. in pursuing cooperation in various fields and he hopes that the two countries will confirm their trade cooperation in the near future to increase investor confidence. The Thai PM added that Thailand is returning to strong democracy and a general election is planned this year.

Mr. Field commended the Thai PM and government for their vision on food security and economic development which includes the Eastern Economic Corridor. The two parties also agreed that educational cooperation plays an important role in strengthening their relationship.
